Christmas 2010

December 27, 2010 – 11:31 am

Following up with Thanksgiving in CT, this year it was also our turn to host Christmas for Regen’s family. Graham was old enough this year that he was interested in helping decorate the tree (and un-decorate, and re-decorate, …)

And then it was time for everyone to arrive. Tatum & Koushik, Soren & Nikki, Katie, and Anna & Bruce were all here. Plus, on Christmas eve day, more of Regen’s family, including cousin Jenn and her family (Steve, Evan, and Elaina), Aunt Nancy, Uncle John, Aunt Joyce, and cousin Lena, stopped by for the afternoon. As expected, Graham had the bulk of the presents. He loved all of them. The biggest was the new easel that Grandpa Rich made. Here are some highlights:

Thanksgiving 2010

December 27, 2010 – 11:17 am

This year it was Knaul family Thanksgiving in Connecticut. There were a few challenges, like Kate and Tim being sick and then having to drive here from Indiana with Zoe and Tess. Howie’s William & Mary men’s soccer was still alive in the NCAA tournament, so he and Katie couldn’t make it. But we ended up having a good time. Zobert and Graham loved playing, and Tess was fun too.

Here’s Zoe and Graham working off some energy…

Apple picking

December 27, 2010 – 11:09 am

Here are a few pictures from when we went apple picking in September while Anna & Bruce were visiting. It was no surprise that our sweet tooth Graham preferred ice cream to apples fresh off the tree.

Remember summer?

December 27, 2010 – 11:03 am

There’s a blizzard going on outside, so it’s a good time to think back to the summer. Here’s a video from the same weekend that we built Graham’s swing and sandbox. (See the Summer Pictures post below.) It took a little while, but Graham decided he liked the sprinkler.

Weekend family get-together at “the cottage”

December 26, 2010 – 11:47 pm

We spent the weekend of September 11-12 in Vermont at the cottage near Ludlow that originally belonged to Regen’s grandparents. Her aunt Joyce and uncle Mark now own it, so we joined them, Tatum & Koushik, Katie, and Anna & Bruce for an end-of-the summer reunion. Regen, Graham and I took a nice long walk on the dirt roads around Lake Nineva (Graham probably did a good half mile walking, and strollered the rest).

I also ran across some pictures from a weekend earlier in August at the cottage with Tatum and Koushik. That trip was timed perfectly for the wild blueberries on the neighboring “Blueberry Hill”. There was also time for a swim in Lake Nineva.

Lutz Family Farm Day

December 26, 2010 – 11:32 pm

Here it is Christmas 2010, and I’m catching up with the blog. It’s been a busy fall, and posting pictures and news has taken a back seat. But better late than never…

We have taken Graham to the Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester, CT quite a few times. It certainly isn’t the biggest kid’s museum in the world (or even the Hartford area – the CT Science Center is definitely worth checking out), but it’s just down the road and it’s a nice, low-key environment. They had a fundraiser at the Fish Family Farm in Bolton, CT at the end of August. We had a good time looking at the animals, eating lunch on the lawn while listening to live music, sampling the from-the-farm ice cream. We tried to go on a hayride, but Mr. G. backed out at the last minute.

A no-kid vacation to Block Island

August 20, 2010 – 10:18 am

Grandma and Grandpa Knaul came to watch Graham for a couple of days while Regen and I took a short mid-week trip to Block Island. We had great weather – a little cloudy but warm for some beach time on Wednesday after arriving on the ferry. On Thursday, I got up early to take some pictures, then we rented bikes to tour the island. We ended up covering most of the island, starting with the Old Harbor area where we stayed, down to the Mohegan Bluffs and the Southeast Light, then up to the New Harbor area, and all the way up to Settler’s Rock at the north end of the island before heading back to drop off the bikes. Then it was lunch, some more time at the beach, and the boat home.

A weekend in NYC

August 20, 2010 – 10:08 am

Our weekend trip to NYC to visit Bridget and Sarah started a little late due to Graham being sick, but ended up with everyone having a good time. (I hope we didn’t infect you, Bridget and Sarah.) As usual, we spent some time walking in Central Park. We also visited the Natural History Museum. Graham’s attention span was only enough for an hour or so in the museum, so there’s lots left to check out on the next visit.

Graham the photographer

July 18, 2010 – 9:25 pm

Graham wanted a picture of his buddy Elmo, so he brought Elmo into the office where Regen was, posed him on the desk, grabbed the camera, and told him to say cheese. Then with a little help with which button to push, Graham took a pretty good picture.

Summer pictures

July 17, 2010 – 2:51 pm

It’s been a while since we posted anything, so here’s a collection from the past couple of months.  First, we had Graham’s 2nd birthday.  He got a bunch of great presents, but he especially likes the new swing and sandbox that Grandpa Rich built for him.  For the 4th of July we went back to Auburn.  David and Howie sailed in the Colonel Peet regatta at the OYC, while Regen, Graham, Grandpa Rich, and Grandma Barb went to the Owasco firehouse for the parade.

Washington, D.C.

June 9, 2010 – 8:31 pm

We recently (well, about a month ago, May 8 – 11) went to Regen’s high school reunion in Westtown, PA, and then to Washington, D.C. to visit friends.

While in D.C., Graham had a great time playing with his new friend Nate. He (and Regen and I) enjoyed perfect weather for a trip around town to see some sights. We visited the Natural History Museum, had lunch and a merry-go-round ride at the National Mall, were partially successful in visiting Regen’s old Senate acquaintances, and toured the National Zoo. As usual, Mr. G loved the animals.

Spring Break

April 2, 2010 – 2:41 pm

We took advantage of David’s parents having a timeshare in Florida to join them, Judy, Kate, Tim, and Zoe for a March vacation on Singer Island. Temperatures were a little below normal, but mid 70’s is a lot better than Connecticut in March.

As usual, Graham loved the water. We also had fun visiting the John D. MacArthur State Park and the Loggerhead Turtle Marine Life Center.
